UP Health System – Portage is proud to announce we have been awarded five stars in the latest round of Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). UP Health System – Portage's Overall Hospital Quality 5-Star Rating puts it among the top hospitals in the U.S. with respect to patient safety and the overall patient experience.

The Star Ratings program is designed to increase healthcare transparency and help patients and their family members make informed decisions about healthcare. The CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating measures hospitals based on their performance across five quality areas: mortality, the safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and the effectiveness and timeliness of care.
UP Health System – Portage has launched several initiatives in recent years aimed to further enhance the quality of care provided to patients, including integrating the best new practice technology in patient safety initiatives, a high focus on patient experience and patient safety efforts, bedside shift reports, and leader rounding to check in personally with patients.
