Brentwood, Tennessee (November 6, 2020) – LifePoint Health, a leading healthcare company dedicated to Making Communities Healthier®, has named Karl Ngoye from Memorial Medical Center (MMC) in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the recipient of its 2020 companywide Mercy Award. Ngoye, who serves as a registered nurse in MMC’s intensive care unit (ICU), was honored for the compassionate care he provides to patients and for his extensive volunteer work with vulnerable and at-risk youth.
LifePoint’s companywide Mercy Award is given annually to one of more than 55,000 LifePoint employees who has profoundly touched the lives of others and embodies the spirit and values upon which the company was founded. It was established in 2001 to honor the life and legacy of the late Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer (CEO), and is the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

A fitness coach and former professional soccer player, Ngoye’s dedication to the well-being of others is rooted in his childhood, having grown up with cousins who came to live with his family following the death of their parents. That early history inspired his commitment to caring for others, especially vulnerable and at-risk youth. Ngoye volunteers two hours each day – often following 12-hour ICU shifts – to mentor local youth and educate them on the importance of making healthy life choices.
Beyond his own community in Las Cruces, Ngoye has spent the last eight years supporting and volunteering at Rancho Los Amigos, a home for abandoned, neglected and abused children in Juarez, Mexico. Back at home in Las Cruces, he serves as a role model within his own family as well, including for his young daughter. And within MMC, he is renowned for his compassionate approach to care and an ability to soothe anxious patients and their families. He has received numerous recognitions for his efforts, including an MMC Shining Star award and the prestigious DAISY Award for nursing.
