Starr Regional Medical Center - Athens
Welcome to Athens, "the Friendly City," where southern hospitality has never gone out of style.
Starr Regional Medical Center provides inpatient and outpatient services for McMinn, Monroe and Meigs counties through its 118-bed acute care facility and physician practices. It is a past winner of LifePoint’s High Five Award, given to hospitals who best demonstrate the company’s High Five Guiding Principles.
Athens is a true shopper’s mecca. Downtown features a host of boutiques, antique stores and specialty shops, and four shopping centers call the Athens area home. Education is also prominent, with a five-school city school system and several colleges in the area, including Tennessee Wesleyan College, a satellite campus of Cleveland State Community College, the Workforce Development Center and the Tennessee Technology Center. And the University of Tennessee’s Knoxville and Chattanooga campuses are within easy commuting distance.
Whether you fish, hunt, hike or golf, the region’s majestic mountains, vast forests and miles of waterways provide a host of recreational pursuits. Watts Bar Lake, the Ocoee River and the Tellico River offer fishing and water sports enthusiasts ample opportunities for fishing, white-water rafting, kayaking and more. Bald River Falls and the Cherokee National Forest promise hiking, fishing and camping. Golfers can tee off at a number of clubs and courses. Nearby is Lost Sea, the world’s largest underground lake.
